Serving Tanzania through fair and efficient tax administration.
To assess, collect and account for all Central Government revenue, administer effectively and efficiently all revenue laws, and advise the Government on all matters related to fiscal policy.
To increase domestic revenue through enhancement of voluntary tax compliance.
We make it easy to pay tax and make lives better.
A brief history
The Tanzania Revenue Authority was established by the Tanzania Revenue Authority Act, Chapter 399 of 1995, and became operational on 1 July 1996. It consolidated previously separate revenue departments into a single, semi-autonomous body.
Over the past three decades, TRA has modernised tax administration through technology, broadened the tax base, and built one of the most respected revenue authorities on the African continent.
Office of the Commissioner General
The Commissioner General is the Chief Executive of the Authority, responsible for the day-to-day operations and accountable to the Board of Directors and the Minister of Finance.
Provides strategic direction, oversees all departments, and represents TRA before the Board, Parliament, and the public.
